Holi

Holi, the Hindu festival of the spring equinox, is both a ceremony of rebirth and a celebration of fertility. Holi is honoured throughout India during the full moon in the month of phâlguna (February/March), but it is in the north that it displays all its exuberance. Social rules are suspended: men and women, dressed in white, flirt, dance in the streets and throw handfuls of coloured pigments at each other: orange for optimism, blue for vitality, red for joy and love.
